Meet the team / Jane-Anne Bird

I have been teaching for over 30 years in mainstream and special schools, including roles as Assistant Headteacher, SENCo and SEND Specialist Teacher/Adviser for a support service. Working across all key stages I have led on SEND, the curriculum and pastoral needs, and been a Designated Safeguarding Lead. In all these roles, the importance of working in close partnership with families was affirmed daily.
My undergraduate study and post-graduate teacher training in modern foreign languages remain with me in my strong belief in the importance of language development in children and young people. It is a significant factor in providing support for pupils with special educational needs, including autism. Another interest of mine is sensory processing as creating an environment where pupils feel comfortable and not distracted is vital for successful learning.
My SEND teaching experiences have embedded my love of working with vulnerable pupils. They open your eyes to seeing the world differently, testing your ability to think creatively on your feet!
