Lorraine Payne

I have worked in education for 33 years.  The first half of my career was in South Africa as a teacher in both primary and secondary schools.  For the last 17 years in the UK, I have been a SENCO in state and independent schools with my last role as Head of Academic and Learning Support for ages 3-18.

Initially supporting students with SpLD, social skills, study skills, and exam strategy, my specialism has developed into supporting students with ADHD, ASC and SEMH.  I am in the final stages of a Master’s degree in SEND with a focus on a trauma informed approach for removing barriers to learning.  I love learning and am constantly engaged in CPD including developing and presenting training for staff.  I have done Nurture Group training and an ‘introduction to play therapy’ course and believe in the power of play and creativity.  Crafting and art, as well as being hobbies, are integral parts of my tool kit when working with young people with SEMH.  I am also passionate about the key role of CBT and DBT skills as both prevention and response in mental wellbeing.

Qualifications: Higher Diploma in Education, BA (Hons), Post Graduate Diploma in SEND including CPT3A for assessment and access arrangements.  Registered with the British Psychological Society.
