Katie Townson

I have taught for 8 years, across both mainstream and special schools, working with Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 – 3.  My roles have included SENCO, Phase Leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team; and as designated safeguarding lead, I have extensive experience of child protection. I have initiated, developed and set up alternative provision for children with complex communication and interaction needs and also supported other schools with this initiative, in order to provide the most appropriate and inclusive strategies for their learners.

I have a particular passion for training and supporting staff with inclusive practice using a range of strategies that can support children with autism and/or communication and interaction difficulties. I am particularly interested in the impact of learning environments and the constant need to audit and reflect on different approaches to identify how to best help each individual child.
