Louise Bourne

I have been in teaching for 11 years, having been SENCo for the past 9 years and most recently, Assistant Headteacher.

Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience of working with children with additional needs, including neurodiversity and those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences. I feel passionate about being an advocate for vulnerable children, particularly those without a voice. I love working closely with families and collaboratively, getting the best support for our children with additional needs.

I have recently created a school-based, nurture style provision that has successfully enabled vulnerable pupils to attend school, feel happy and feel part of the community. I strongly believe that building a relationship with a child is the key to breaking the barriers that pupils with additional needs can feel in mainstream schools.
I am particularly interested in supporting children with communication and interaction difficulties and looking at the similarities and differences between autism and attachment needs. I’m interested in the way the two can overlap and in working out which different approaches meet each individual child’s needs the best.
